Marriage Equality: The California Supreme Court Opinion Makes Sock Monkey Sad

Marriage Equality for All!

Sock Monkey is sad.

Sock Monkey is sad because the California Supreme Court issued its Opinion today upholding Proposition 8 (pdf) (link to doc. file), which prevents marriage for Gays and Lesbians.

Technically, the court's ruling was correct because it's not the court's job to make law. That's the role of the Legislature. But, the court's opinion is wrong because it denies equal rights to certain groups within our society.

Nonetheless, today's court opinion won't dim the fight for marriage equality. Time and tolerance will change the public perception of what they "believe' constitutes the concept of marriage.

Marriage Equality for all!

Sock Monkey fans are a very small, albeit select group of people. The Sock Monkey has a well deserved place in American toy history. It's a story that should be preserved for its ingenuity, motherly love and historical context that has given rise to the enduring appeal of the Sock Monkey. There is even a permanent exhibit of the Sock Monkey at the Midway Village Museum in Rockford, Illinois. Us Sock Monkey fans must stick together!

Well, we have certainly found another member of our tribe at KitchenDoughDough. Talk about Sock Monkey love! As pictured above, Baby DoughDough's nursery is decked out in all things a la Sock Monkey. Imagine waking up to all that and a Mommy who bakes and designs adorable Sock Monkey cupcakes too!

Big Rabbit is boxed up before SCP closed on Easter Sunday Eve.

Sock Monkey's human took him to South Coast Plaza for his photo with the creepy Easter Bunny. When we arrived the line was quite long so we went for a walk over to Crystal Court. Sock Monkey got a photo with the Paul Frank Bunny (okay, we tried, so use your imagination.) And, Sock Monkey sat down with the little kiddies and colored a bunny just for his readers!

When we arrived back at the SCP Easter Bunny area, imagine our surprise when we found the Easter Bunny gone! Where did he go? It was only 8:50 PM!

Where's the Big Rabbit? With a hammer in hand, a worker pointed to a big box. Oh wow. It looked like a casket.

Why the hurry to pack up Big Rabbit? Big Rabbit charges overtime at 9:01 PM and he was already booked for an Easter Sunday gig.

Bye Bye Bunny.
