Marriage Equality: The California Supreme Court Opinion Makes Sock Monkey Sad

Marriage Equality for All!

Sock Monkey is sad.

Sock Monkey is sad because the California Supreme Court issued its Opinion today upholding Proposition 8 (pdf) (link to doc. file), which prevents marriage for Gays and Lesbians.

Technically, the court's ruling was correct because it's not the court's job to make law. That's the role of the Legislature. But, the court's opinion is wrong because it denies equal rights to certain groups within our society.

Nonetheless, today's court opinion won't dim the fight for marriage equality. Time and tolerance will change the public perception of what they "believe' constitutes the concept of marriage.
