Hey Mon, it's me, Sock MON-key...

I'm decked out in my new faux dreadlocks and rastafarian threads. Blazing new trails channeling Bob Marley and celebrating Haile Selassie's birthday on July 23rd.

By the way, the framed art in the background is my official portrait by Cakespy.

I'll be on holiday for the rest of the week.

Until then, wishing you Peace and Cupcakes!

Sock Monkey autographed by Jane Goodall

Sock Monkey autographed by Jane Goodall

Story by Mike Wiser
of the Rockford Register Star
rrstar.com

This is no ordinary Sock Monkey. See that signature on the monkey's shirt? Anthropologist Jane Goodall, known for her primate research signed the Sock Monkey for Dena Mattausch at a lSan Diego conference.

Mattausch purchased the Sock Monkey at the Midway Village Museum and planned to auction off the autographed Sock Monkey. Proceeds are earmarked for reimbursment of her conference fees, which were paid by a Rockford, Illinois, professional organization.

Rockford, is the official "birthplace" of the sock monkey. The Nelson Knitting Mills was founded by John Nelson who invented a sock-knitting machine in 1869. The former factory made the red heel socks used to craft the original sock toy. In 1992, the Nelson Knitting Mills was purchased by Fox River Mills, who carries on the sock monkey legacy.

Sock Monkey Jackson by Dulce VanDyken

Photo from Craftsanity.com

Via Craftsanity.com, comes Sock Monkey Jackson, a tribute to the late "King of Pop", Michael Jackson handcrafted by Dulce VanDyken of West Michigan.

Dulce's handmade Sock Monkey bears an endearing likeness to the late entertainer during his Thriller era. Dulce's creation stands about 12 inches tall and 4 inches wide. The machine washable Sock Monkey is dressed in a red jacket, black pants and a single sequined glove, which became Jackson's trademark. The doll also wears a black hat with a tumbling lock of a Jheri Curl reminiscent of Jackson's hair style during the late 1980's.

Sock Monkey Jackson can be purchased complete for $50.00.

The outfit can also be purchased separately for $25.00.

Sock Monkey Jackson is for sale in Dulce's Etsy store, "The Monkey Shop."
